SEZ - Special Economic Zone

NCAS opposes SEZs and demands a repeal of the SEZ act on account of their anti people nature. SEZs have generated huge controversy on account of huge land grab, lax labour and environment regimes, huge tax concessions and loss in political sovereignty. NCAS has been providing consistent support to grassroots groups, alliances, organisations and concerned individuals campaigning against SEZs.

These “deemed foreign territories” vigorously pushed by the government and corporates claim to boost Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), exports, employment and provide world class infrastructure, putting India on a fast track mode of growth and development. Since the notification of SEZ rules 2006, more than 400 SEZs (and still counting) in various stages of approval have emerged in the country. More>>
