A Movement in Grassroots Advocacy: Strengthening Civil Society for Social Action
This initiative consists of a series of community learning movements (CLMs) designed to build the capacity of marginalised groups and facilitate micro campaigns on local issues. Working directly with grassroots advocacy groups, NCAS engages a people-centred approach in generating advocacy awareness and facilitating the establishment of sustainable advocacy methods.
Phase 1: The first phase on this project consists of a series of CLMs, designed to strengthen the capacity of marginalized groups to embark on advocacy campaigns. CLMs work at the grassroots level to garner community strength to advocate for issues of livelihood rights and governance accountability. They also work to unite communities and establish advocacy initiatives to demand for the full and complete implementation of their rights.
Phase 2: The second phase of this project is geared towards the construction of micro-campaigns in targeted locations. In collaboration with CLM partners, NCAS staff, and outside professionals, it was decided that the core mission of the second phase of this project should be to provide support for community-led campaigns. While NCAS seeks to catalyze the creation and construction of the campaign, the specific tasks required in organizing and mobilizing a campaign is conducted by participants themselves. Under NCAS’ guidance, they are responsible for creating a campaign framework, designing activities, and delegating roles and responsibilities. The final product of this project results in enhanced advocacy capabilities for people seeking to advocate on social justice issues; it provides a long-term and sustainable model for ongoing campaigns at both the local and national levels.
