Working with the Community of Advocacy Practitioners, NCAS representatives traveled to Bangladesh in order to lead a workshop on “organising and mobilising.” With participants from countries throughout South Asia, the workshop emphasized the need to share strategies in organising social movements. NCAS promoted the use of community learning movements as a mean to engage people at the grassroots level to advocate for their rights.

Two representatives from NCAS’ research team were invited to present their work on tribal governance and development at two seminars held on tribal development in Maharashtra and Gujarat. By attending these paper-sharing seminars, NCAS researchers are able to present their research, as well as familiarize themselves with research topics being addressed at other organisations.

In February, 2010, NCAS conducted a symposium on “Understanding Globalisation and its Challenges from the Perspective of the Marginalised.” Held at the Indian Institute of Education in Pune, the symposium included lectures by academic scholars, NGO representatives, and former political figures. As a joint effort between the research and capacity units at NCAS, the symposium shared current scholarly and political thought concerning the effects of globalisation on marginalised peoples, as well as provided advocacy-building strategies to involve the voices of disenfranchised groups in the changes resulting from globalisation.
