Advocacy Internship Programme (AIP) is a unique venture of National Centre for Advocacy Studies, which has been in operation since the year 1999. It aims at developing a set of young and dedicated professionals who are committed to social activism. It is a program that caters to the need of social activism and enriches the participants with the political perspective, knowledge, and skills required for effective public advocacy.
The AIP for each batch of interns is of 18-months duration. It involves in-house training, learning from field exposure to various peoples’ movements, campaigns and grass-root organizations, as well as six months of field-work experience though placement with such organizations. As an important part of fulfillment of the internship course, the interns submit a dissertation on any contemporary topic of their interest.
The in-house training component covers a multidisciplinary curriculum and syllabus that highlights the subjects related to social change, such as - Understanding of the Indian Society, Polity and Economy, Issues in new Social Movements, Approaches to Social Change etc. It also provides insight into the concepts and practices of advocacy, contemporary human rights activism, campaign building and net working and research methodologies.
Every year, applications for the AIP are invited in the months of May and June. (Application forms may be downloaded from this site). The short-listed candidates are invited for a youth camp that is organized in July, during which the final selection is made. The term of AIP begins in August. On an average, 8 interns are selected every year.
NCAS provides a conductive environment and facilities to learn and work. The design of AIP provides huge scope for self-learning. The interns are encouraged to attend seminars, workshops, lectures etc. and engage in interactive collective learning.
